Earlier this year the eccentric and eclectic Erykah Badu released her new video “Windows Seat” to audiences and as expected controversy ensued. Amidst all the bucked eyes and gaping mouths at the Badu’s nude stroll through the streets of Dallas, were rumors of indecency charges being filed against the singer. Badu was thankfully able to avoid any legal issues. Directors Chike and Coodie think that secretly Badu wanted to get arrested though. Chike revealed to MTV that, “We had bail money and everything. I think she really wanted to get arrested, even make a bigger message.” Sadly, the R&B legend felt her message was so misinterpreted that she had to make a statement. She told fans via Twitter that, “my performance art has been grossly misinterpreted by many”. Badu went on to say, “all the controversy distracts us from the REAL news. The big cover up. Ya’ll know the drill. Stay woke.” Recently in the news, Keri Hilson is being chastised for her scantily clad appearance in her “The Way You Love Me” video. Hilson seen gyrating and dancing in a black bikini has caused quite an uproar. But the diva bites back in a video interview with Necole Bitchie saying, “I’ve probably had fewer sexual partners than a lot of people who are crucifying me doing a video like that… Not probably, I know I have.” More scandalous than Badu’s nude misrepresented video and Hilson’s barely there wardrobe is the hyper sexual “Single” video by R&B sensation, Raheem DeVaughn. The video was so explicit that many viewers have dubbed it “soft porn.” DeVaughn on the other hand does not see it as being void of taste – matter of fact, he tells VIBE.com that“I wanted to create an image that was tasteful, but cutting edge, provocative, grown… real.” Tasteful or tawdry? You be the judge. NEXT: Arrests, Mugshots, and Drug Busts – Why!

2010 was a wild year for R&B music, with scandals popping up left and right! From controversial lyrics to even more controversial videos, there were plenty of jaw-dropping moments. Here’s our top five picks of the most scandalous R&B videos released in 2010 that had everyone talking.

The first video on our list is no stranger to controversy. Chris Brown’s “Yeah 3x” video was done completely in black and white – but it wasn’t just the colors that caught people’s attention. The explicit dance moves and suggestive themes quickly caused an uproar from fans and critics alike.

Second on our list is another fan favorite: Rihanna’s “S&M” music video. Although some viewers saw her as empowering women everywhere to embrace their sexuality, many others felt uncomfortable watching what seemed like an incredibly sexualized portrayal of a young woman. Either way, this video certainly stirred up conversation about female empowerment – not to mention its heavy bondage theme!

Last but not least on our list is Usher’s “Love In This Club Part II” featuring Beyoncé & Lil’ Wayne. It featured a number of sexually charged scenes that led many conservative viewers to call out the artists involved for promoting promiscuity and objectifying women; while other audiences found themselves entranced by both Usher and Beyonce’s natural talent. Whether you love or hate it, this one definitely made us all stop and think twice!

Music Video Controversies

As the 2010s progressed, some of the most shocking and controversial music videos to come out were in R&B. From explicit content to questions about appropriation, these videos caused a stir and left audiences wondering what was going on behind-the-scenes. Here are just some of the top R&B scandals from that year.

One of the biggest controversies came when Chris Brown released his video for “Look At Me Now” featuring Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes. The video featured lyrics many deemed as misogynistic, including lines like “All these haters mad because I’m so established/She wanna lick the rapper so she can brag to her friends.” This led to an outcry over why such lyrical content would be celebrated by major labels despite its negative messages towards women.

Another popular music video that had people talking was Beyoncé’s “Why Don’t You Love Me”. It raised concerns around cultural appropriation due to it’s ’50s aesthetic with doo wop influences which seemed to emulate white culture rather than honoring black roots. Critics accused her of ignoring or disregarding those origins while others defended her creative decisions as being rooted in homage or admiration for classic sounds regardless of race.

The heated debates sparked by these videos showed how much impact visual media has – both positive and negative – on society today, leading viewers everywhere to question where their favorite artists stand on important issues.

Behind-The-Scenes Drama

Besides the controversial music videos, there was also plenty of drama going on behind-the-scenes in 2010. One of the biggest stories that year came when Usher and his wife Tameka Foster were embroiled in a heated custody battle over their two sons. It caused lots of public scrutiny as people followed every twist and turn with intense interest.

R&B singer Ciara had her own personal struggles this same year, too. She filed for divorce from rapper Future after rumors circulated that he’d cheated on her while she was pregnant with their son. This news shocked fans who’d admired their relationship since they first went public with it three years prior.

The events surrounding these two couples brought up important questions about how celebrities handle crises and whether or not we should be paying attention to them at all. Whatever your opinion may be, one thing is clear: R&B scandals will always draw our gaze – even if just for a moment – no matter what decade we’re in.

Conclusion

In conclusion, 2010 was a year of some major R&B scandals. From music video controversies to behind-the-scenes drama, there were plenty of moments that left us all in shock. It really goes to show how quickly things can change within the industry and how important it is for artists to be aware of their actions and public presence.

One thing’s for certain though; with the success of these scandals came increased exposure, popularity and ultimately even more money at the end of the day. Whether or not this was intentional on behalf of any artist involved, it still happened nonetheless. As fans, we must simply learn from our mistakes and use them as growing experiences going forward.

Overall, every scandal has its pros and cons but no matter what side you take, one thing remains true: when it comes to R&B scandals in 2010, they certainly gave us something to talk about!
