The loss of the King of Pop has resonated with so many across the world. It is especially difficult for the men who have followed in the footsteps of the man who essentially defined stage presence. Hours after the tragic loss of Michael Jackson, Grammy recognized performers Usher, Chris Brown and Trey Songz are simply “devastated”. “This loss has deeply saddened me, with a heavy heart I composed this statement. May God cover you Michael. We all lift your name up in prayer. I pray for the entire JACKSON family particularly Michaelâs mother and all his fans that loved him so much. I would not be the artist, performer, and philanthropist I am today without the influence of Michael. I have great admiration and respect for Him and Iâm so thankful I had the opportunity to meet and perform with such a great entertainer In so many ways he transcended culture. He broke barriers, he changed radio formats! With music, he made it possible for people like Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama to impact the mainstream world. His legacy is unparalleled Michael Jackson will never be forgotten,” says Usher. Echoing Usher, Trey Songz took to his blog Thursday calling Jackson not just the King of Pop but ‘The King of Music’. “Some say the “King of Pop” but lets just be real. Michael Jackson is the King of Music as we know it today. He’s the greatest entertainter to ever live. I use to kinda joke around and say that when a baby was born, he/she would know Michael Jackson. All of your favorite artists today listened to, appreciated, and in some way were influenced by his music. If I made a list the names would take up the whole page, every genre included. We all can recite numerous lyrics and with over 750 million records sold to this day I’m sure most of the world could sing as one. Take a moment to think, When was the first time you did the moonwalk or spun around in your mirror? How many times did you do the signature MJ scream, Wooohooo, Heeeheee!?,” says Songz. Asking for respect, Songz went on to write “Lets pay respect where it’s due and know that he’s in a better place with our true KING, our Lord and Savior. Rest in Peace brotha.” The loss of Michael Jackson is severely devastating to us all but for Chris Brown, who shared the stage with Jackson at the World Music Awards and cites Jackson as the reason he “does music” it is tragic. Brown issued a statement late Thursday, writing: “Michael Jackson is the reason why I do music and why I am an entertainer. I am devastated by this great loss, and I will continue to be humbled and inspired by his legacy. My prayers are with his family. Michael will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Heâs the greatest⦠the best ever. No one will ever be better.” Let us remember Michael Jackson’s life, talent, and the important and undeniable legacy he has left on not just the entertainment world but the world at large.
