Giving a performance that is still being applauded some two weeks later at the 25th Annual Chicago Gospel Music Festival, American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino admits Gospel is her foundation. “Church is in me… I’m doing what I was raised on,” Fantasia confirmed shortly after performing with mom, Diane Barrino, in Chicago. (see photos here) “Even doing R&B, I’m doing Gospel,” Fantasia went on to say. Building upon that foundation, the former “Free Yourself” singer has plans to record a Gospel song her third studio album and a full Gospel album after that. Rumored to be slated for release early 2010, Fantasia’s third studio effort follows her self-titled 2006 album that spawned the singles “When I See You” and “Hood Boy”. In related news, Stellar Award winning Gospel/Inspirational recording artist Marvin Sapp has set a new record. Sapp, known widely for the 2008 single “Never Would Have Made It,” has sold over 1.2 million ringtones of the hit single — leading to Platinum certification. News of Sapp’s ringtone related accolade follows a bevy of both Stellar and Dove Award nominations for the “Thirsty” artist. The former Commissioned member will also appear at this year’s Essence Music Festival. Click Here for more information on the festival and its line up.
