After being a finalist on Season 3 of NBC’s “The Voice” (on Adam Levine’s team), rising Gospel recording artist Michelle Brooks-Thompson is releasing her EP later this year.
Today, Singersroom premieres her new single, “When I Think,” a jamming tune about the realization of blessings. “When I think of your goodness, when I think of your mercy / When I think of all the things you’ve done / Lord I’m blessed I praise you,” she sings on the first verse.
Michelle was born into a family of musicians, starting with her mother, the late Barbara Gayle Brooks, who with her sisters formed a female group in the 70's called the "Wallace Sisters." Michelle started singing at an early age in the choir at her grandfather’s church and later in a trio Gospel group with her mother and aunt. From the age of 14 through 22 she served as Minister of Music for her grandfather’s church, Miracle Temple COGIC.
Since leaving “The Voice,” the Springfield, MA singer offered a rousing rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" at several events, including Boston Red Sox games, at Gillette Stadium for the New England Patriots 2014 AFC game, Major League Soccer playoff games and she performed at the last game for legendary MLB player Derek Jeter, as part of the Boston Red Sox's pre-game ceremony to honor Derek Jeter as he retired.
Last November, Michelle won her first Gospel Music Award for “Single of the Year” from the Angelic Awards in Boston, for her single “He Will Do It”. Also, she has landed a starring role in the electrifying International Gospel Musical Stage Play “When the Child Cries” written by Lee A. Harris. Michelle is currently headlining as one of the main gospel artists on the Take Over World Peace Movement Tour.
