Montreal-bred singer-songwriter Dessy Di Lauro calls her sound “neo-ragtime,” and you’ll hear why on her new single, “Let Me Hear You Say Hep Hep," a cut from her upcoming EP set to release this August. “Let Me Hear You Say Hep Hep" premiered this past weekend on a radio station in her hometown of Montreal, but Singersroom is glad to be the source of the U.S. premiere!
Produced by Di Lauro's writing parner Ric'key Pageot, the L.A.-based artist manages to channel an authentic early-20th century sound with jazzy horns and a free-spirited piano, all the while keeping it modern with a hip-hop backbeat and flow break with Anon. Dessy explains, "'Say Hep Hep' follows our neo-ragtime signature with syncopated stride-piano over funky tight production with swinging soulful melodies and catchy RnB hooks. This new anthem is about people expressing their ''joie de vivre'' and letting go of all inhibitions. It's about feeling good and being happy in the moment and sharing positive energy and having a good time, celebrating life with friend's and strangers alike."
Di Lauro and writing partner Ric'key Pageot describes her as ‘Feathered Fro-Hawk Futuristic Art Deco Centric Harlem Renaissance Hep Music’, with a live show incorporating elements from the ''Speakeasy Era''.
