A sick juror forced a Manhattan judge to declare a mistrial in Ashanti and her family’s stalker case against Devar Hurd.
Back in June (2014), the man accused of stalking and harassing the R&B singer and her family was granted the right to self-representation after he made several complaints about how his attorney, Glenn Hardy, was handling his case.
On Tuesday, Ashanti, her manager and mother, Tina Douglas, and more took the stand and fielded questions from the delusional Hurd, who was facing 10 counts, including criminal contempt and felony stalking, after allegedly breaking the terms of a restraining order by bombarding Ashanti with sexually explicit messages on Twitter. He also showed up at two of her sister's charity events in 2012, even posing for a picture with her.
Hurd was not allowed to make any contact with Ashanti and her family after completing a two-year prison sentence in 2012.
On Thursday, judge Daniel Conviser ruled the case a mistrial after making several attempts to contact the sick female juror, who made it difficult for the panelist to deliberate.
The prosecutors are still legally able to file another case against Hurd.
