Grammy winning singer-songwriter-producer The-Dream is all about the music on his forthcoming album, IV Play. This was the message he was aiming to deliver during a recent listening session at New York's Jungle City Studios. Playing songs from his iPhone, in no particular order since the album has not been formatted as yet, The-Dream played a diverse bunch of records, ranging from 90's R&B to modern day edgy cuts.
IV Play Tracklist:
IV play – The album's title track boast a 90s vibe with its rich harmonies and soulful musical chords. Soaked with a flowery Synth, which gives the track a modern day feel, this bedroom banger will certainly having you going all night as Dream sings, "ride up on it."
Fiya Ft. Beyonce – My personal favorite on the album. On "Fiya," Beyonce adds a sensual, intimate flair that may shock some of her fans. Produced by hitmaker Timbaland, with chord structures similar to Bobby Womack's "If You Think You're Lonely Now", the sexed-up, seductive track sees Beyonce getting equipped to give her man the business while The Dream is ready to put in work on his lady. "I've never been high / but tonight I might try it / I've been such a good girl / but tonight I might try it," moans B while Dream follows with "your body sweat like yams in this bitch."
Where Have You Been Ft. Kelly Rowland – The-Dream may be the only person who can make Kelly Rowland sound good while cussing. This lascivious ballad is about finally meeting the person of your dreams after going through several egregious relationships. Another 90s feeling R&B banger, this ensemble makes you want to scream, I'm "all f**ked up with love."
Too Early In The Morning – Drum and bass heavy, Bluesy track that focuses on The-Dream's lyrics and expression. With some auto-tune and chopped and screw parts, this track may coerce you to catch the holy ghost. "Too Early In The Morning" also boast a dynamic guitar riff at the end.
Michael – Seconds after pressing play on this track, producer Timbaland enters the room, stops the music, and told us to pay attention, insisting The-Dream's project is a "real R&B album." "Michael" is not a record that aims to pay homage to the late great Michael Jackson. Instead, the record draws inspiration from the King of Pop's smooth-coated tones to richen The-Dream's message on the Paino-laden, drum and bass tune. "F**k a love song, I need to f**k you," bellows Dream on the good feeling, lyrical masterpiece.
High Art – According to The-Dream, the song will feature Jay-Z, whose vocals is on the way. "High Art" is a braggadocios street record that settles on money, getting high, and being on top.
Divine – This string-driven, airy, flowy track currently features Mary J. Blige's vocal on the demo. It's currently unclear If she will remain for the album or be replace by another singer. "Divine" is an inspirational record that will surely empower listeners.
Self Conscious – Bouncy track with an airy Synth and is an ode to your special someone.
Y'all – Another inspirational song about defying the odds and not worrying what people are saying about you. The tune may be one of The-Dream's more personal records as it tackles a bunch of topics from his kids, to friends, to the industry. End the end, Dream affirms that he always gives his all, but "sometimes even my cape needs dry cleaning once in a while."
Pussy – Stripclub-styled record that will feature rapper Big Sean. We can categorize this track as X-Rated as The-Dream croons, "hand on her ass and hand in her pussy."
Last track (currently untitled) – Another personal record, The-Dream unleashes his lyrical kryptonite to highlight his career of love and music. In the end music always wins, "nothing can beat that."
On IV Play,The-Dream uses his lyrical swagger and years of experience to create a strong R&B album. The set is slated for release on May 28th, and is led by the single “Slow It Down” featuring Fabolous.

The-Dream’s fifth studio album, IV Play, is a blend of his signature bedroom music with the intensity of street anthems. The album starts off strong with “High Art,” featuring Jay-Z and Beyoncé rapping over an upbeat beat. From there, we are taken into a world of love songs such as “Where Have You Been” and “That’s My Sh*t.” Each track builds on the last to create a cohesive sound that moves between R&B and rap; it sounds like one long song at times.
