What’s up fam?! First I want to thank Singersroom.com for giving me the opportunity to be a guest blogger on the site. I appreciate all the support, especially on my first official single (and video), “Naked.” Make sure to drop by the site to get an exclusive glimpse into my world!
To Live & Die In LA…
Growing up in L.A. Watts, California wasn’t the easiest, but fortunately my folks always kept me active and away from the streets. Growing up, I can honestly say I had the best of both worlds. Just about everyone on my mom’s side sings or plays an instrument and my dad comes from an athletic background. Although most of my childhood was spent playing football or running track, there was always a place for music. While pursing my degree, I continuously worked on crafting my sound by posting my material on MySpace and YouTube to get feedback and to also help people get familiar with me. My passion for music ultimately resulted in my decision to pass on the NFL Draft. If I wanted to take my music to the next level, I knew I would need to dedicate myself 100%. It was a hard decision to make (and tell my family) because if it wasn’t for football I would have never graduated from Washington State University on a full-scholarship (shouts out to Omega Psi Phi!!).
Behind-the-Scenes…
My first break into the music industry came in 2010 when I worked with Chris Brown on a track titled “Deuces” from his Fan of Fan mixtape. “Deuces,” which I was featured on, co-wrote and produced, opened doors for my career and lead me to write and produce with other dope artists like Diddy, Dirty Money, Keri Hilson, Justin Bieber, Mindless Behavior and countless others. Those opportunities also strengthened my working relationship with Chris. Eventually, “Deuces” was added to Chris’ fourth album, F.A.M.E. and reached #1 on the Billboard Hip-Hop/ R&B charts…by far one of the biggest accomplishments in my career!
