It is safe to say that the vast majority of us listen to music while driving. However, not everyone listens to it the same way. Many of us still use the speakers that come installed in cars.
However, these speakers can often be underpowered and they usually deliver very poor audio quality. If you want to change that, then you need to invest in some car speakers of your own.
We firmly believe that the best option for most car owners when it comes to speakers are 6.5 speakers. They deliver just the sort of high-quality audio that most of you are going to be looking for.
In this article, we will be reviewing the best 6.5 speakers to help you make a purchasing decision. If you want to know what the overall best 6.5 speaker is, it is the Pioneer TS-F1634R 6.5″ 200W 2-Way Speakers.

Pioneer TS-F1634R 6.5″ 200W 2-Way Speakers
To start off our best 6.5 speakers list, we wanted to review the Pioneer TS-F1634R 6.5″ 200W 2-Way Speakers. These are really good, balanced speakers that are sure to improve your car’s audio output and make your car jamming sessions a lot better.
A good example to illustrate the quality of these speakers and to look at why the Pioneer TS-F1634R 6.5″ 200W 2-Way Speakers deserve to be on our best 6.5 speakers list is to look at the sensitivity of these speakers, which is one of the best indicators of the overall sound quality of a set of speakers. To determine the sound sensitivity of a set of speakers, there are a few different numbers that you want to look at.
The first number is the RMS of the speakers. A typical car speaker (the basic kind that comes installed with the car) has an RMS of about 15 watts. The Pioneer TS-F1634R 6.5″ 200W 2-Way Speakers, on the other hand, have an RMS of 25 watts instead. That is quite a noticeable increase in total RMS. That extra RMS wattage allows the Pioneer speakers to pick up a wide variety of sounds, which leads to a better listening experience.
The next thing that you want to look for is the overall decibel level of the speaker. The Pioneer TS-F1634R 6.5″ 200W 2-Way Speakers boast a sensitivity level of 88 dbs. Again, this helps to give the speakers a much more versatile sound profile. They can pick up a much wider array of sounds, which leads to a better listening experiences, both for podcasts and songs.
Something else important to look for is the overall wattage of the Pioneer TS-F1634R 6.5″ 200W 2-Way Speakers. This is another good number to look at when it comes to interpreting the overall sound quality that a set of speakers is going to give you. Obviously, you don’t have any numbers to compare it to yet as this is our first review, but trust us when we say that 200 watts is quite a lot and it is yet another good example of the quality of the Pioneer speaker set.
Finally, we want to say one last thing about the Pioneer TS-F1634R 6.5″ 200W 2-Way Speakers. They are very easy speakers to install. So, if you are new to the world of installation, don’t worry too much as these are very beginner friendly and getting them up and running shouldn’t give you too much hassle.

- Super easy to install.
- Relatively affordable price range.

Rockford Fosgate R165X3 Prime 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers
The next product that we want to review on our best 6.5 speakers list is something that is going to do a much better job of appealing to those of you who are looking for a truly high-quality set of speakers.
Take our word for it when we say that the Rockford Fosgate R165X3 Prime 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers are the sort of high-quality speakers that are definitely going to appeal to the true audiophile out there. As you will see in this review, these speakers are good enough that they can elevate the music listening experience with ease.
First off, with a 45 watt RMS, these speakers deliver very good sound quality. Such a high RMS allows the speakers to pick up an extremely wide variety of sounds with a lot of nuance. So, songs that you have heard before on your original car speakers will now sound much fuller and richer.
You will notice more of the nuance in the music and in the singing. It is just a much superior listening experience overall. Contributing to the very good sound quality of the Rockford Fosgate R165X3 Prime 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers is their high dbs level. You will recall that the previous speakers that we looked at had a max dbs level of 88. Well, the Rockford speakers boast an even higher level of 91. Again, this helps to make the speakers more nuanced and better able to deliver a wider sound profile.
Further adding to the quality of the Rockford Fosgate R165X3 Prime 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers is both the fact that they are made out of strong material that encourages the proper dispersion of sound (non-audiophiles may be shocked at just how much certain materials have an impact on sound quality) and that the speakers are made to be fairly easy to install.
One issue that we have with the Rockford Fosgate R165X3 Prime 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers relates to its price. At a much higher price than the previous product, the speakers are a bit more expensive.
Now, if you are a true audiophile, then the price likely isn’t going to bother you too much. If, however, you are a more casual music fan and are just looking for a pair of speakers to upgrade what you currently have, then the price of the Rockford Fosgate R165X3 Prime 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers may be a bit too much for you to swallow. That isn’t too big of a deal, as we do have many of other, more moderately priced options for you to take a look at.
- High dbs sensitivity level (91 dbs).
- High 45 watt RMS.
- Very easy installation.
- Made from good material that promotes sound quality.
- May be a bit pricey for some.
JBL GTO629 Premium 6.5-Inch Co-Axial Speaker
The next product that we think needs a good look at is the JBL GTO629 Premium 6.5-Inch Co-Axial Speaker. This is, as you are going to see in our review, an extremely high-end speaker set. It may be pricey, but we assure you that the price of the speakers is more than justified by their high quality and the many great features that they bring to the table.
For starters, the JBL GTO629 Premium 6.5-Inch Co-Axial Speaker features a really unique pivot system referred to as the “UniPivot” system. What this does is let you move the speakers to angle up towards your ears.
This is meant to make it so that no matter where in the car you may install the speakers (whether it be the front of the car, the back of the car, or near the doors) that you can angle them to deliver the best sound quality possible.
An issue that speaker experts may be familiar with is that some powerful speakers out there (including the JBL GTO629 Premium 6.5-Inch Co-Axial Speaker) are actually too powerful for the existing speaker infrastructure in the car; the wires simply don’t have enough juice to support really powerful speakers.
Thankfully, the JBL speakers know that this is a problem and have taken steps to help alleviate any potential issues. They compensate for substandard architecture to ensure that you get the same listening experience, regardless of what your car happens to be like.
The biggest issue with this speaker set is its price. In terms of pure cost, the JBL GTO629 Premium 6.5-Inch Co-Axial Speaker is easily the most expensive speaker set that we have reviewed so far on our best 6.5 speaker list.
Coming in at well over $100, it definitely eats into your wallet. However, as we have said in previous reviews of pricier speaker set, we imagine that many dedicated speaker enthusiasts are going to be willing to pay that high amount. Whether that includes you, is going to be entirely dependent on just how much you enjoy rocking out in the car. We will say that the price of the JBL GTO629 Premium 6.5-Inch Co-Axial Speaker is a lot more tolerable when you consider just the sort of quality speakers that you are getting.
- Accommodates less than perfect cars.
- Unique pivot system ensures that you can always angle the speakers to reach your ears.
- An extremely powerful set of speakers.
- Delivers amazing and nuanced audio.
- An extremely pricey speaker set.
Blaupunkt 6.5-Inch 4-Way Coaxial Car Audio Speaker
So far on our best 6.5 speakers review list, we have been lacking a truly budget option. Obviously, if you don’t have some money to burn, you probably aren’t going to be buying car speakers at all.
However, we still felt like it was a good idea to include a “cheaper” option for the purpose of helping those of you who may be looking for a cheap gift for someone or for those of you who may be new to installing your own car speakers and who don’t want to spend a lot of money on an expensive set of speakers right away.
Of course, this is still a list dedicated to looking at the best 6.5 speakers and so we still have standards to uphold. With that in mind, the speakers that we found that best blended quality and affordability is the Blaupunkt 6.5-Inch 4-Way Coaxial Car Audio Speaker.
In terms of price, this speaker set is most definitely the cheapest option that we have reviewed so far. At around $20 in price, the Blaupunkt 6.5-Inch 4-Way Coaxial Car Audio Speakers are certainly not what anyone would call expensive.
This low price, as we said earlier, makes them the perfect option for those who just want a cheap gift for someone or for someone who doesn’t want to start out with a super high-end, pricey pair of speakers.
Now, we know what you are all thinking. “Since these speakers are super cheap, they must not be that good.” While we say that in terms of pure audio quality and overall performance the Blaupunkt 6.5-Inch 4-Way Coaxial Car Audio Speakers aren’t able to compete with the pricier options, they are still pretty good speakers in their own right and they deserve to be reviewed on this list.
For example, the speakers have a very impressive 120 watt RMS output. They also have an aluminum voice coil that does a great job of helping to pick up more nuanced sounds and increase the overall sensitivity of the speakers.
- Good RMS wattage (120 watts).
- Cheapest option on our review list.
- Helpful aluminum voice coil.
- Very good speakers, given how inexpensive they are.
- Can’t really compete with the pricier options in terms of audio performance.
Kicker DSC650 DS Series 6.5″ 4-Ohm Coaxial Speakers
The final speakers that we want to look at aren’t anything special by the standards of our best 6.5 speakers list. Indeed, if you have been diligently following along with our review list, then absolutely nothing about these speakers is absolutely going to blow you away.
So, why then are we even bothering to include the Kicker DSC650 DS Series 6.5″ 4-Ohm Coaxial Speakers on our review list if there is nothing particularly special about them? Well, simply put, they are yet another good speaker option that doesn’t cost too much and that will appeal to a wide array of audiophiles. So, we figured that the Kicker speakers were just another good speaker to round out this already fantastic review list.
First off, these speakers provide the sort of power that true enthusiasts are going to want, which is impressive because they aren’t really all that expensive in the grand scheme of things. For a price of well under $100, you are going to be getting speakers that have a grand total of 240 watts of total power (120 watts each).
This on its own is impressive, but the Kicker DSC650 DS Series 6.5″ 4-Ohm Coaxial Speakers also bring an RMS wattage of 60 to the table. So, you end up with a pair of speakers that are powerful and more than capable of elevating audio considerably.
There are two other things that we want to discuss about the Kicker DSC650 DS Series 6.5″ 4-Ohm Coaxial Speakers that are sure to give you a good idea of the quality of these speakers. First off, the speakers are made from this really high-quality polyethylene material.
This material helps to prevent any muffling of the sound and it actually goes a long way toward making the sound better. Secondly, the Kicker DSC650 DS Series 6.5″ 4-Ohm Coaxial Speakers have a great domed shape that help to funnel the sound upwards toward you. It isn’t anything revolutionary, but it does help to make the sound quality of the speakers even better.
- Domed shape helps to “funnel” the sound towards your ears.
- Made using good polyethylene material.
- Strong total power output (240 watts, 120 per speaker).
- 60 watt RMS.
- The speakers can be tricky to install due to lack of instructions.
6.5 Speaker Buying Guide
Interested in knowing how to buy a good set of 6.5 speakers all on your own? Well, in this part of the article, that is what we are going to be taking a look at.
RMS
Something that we mentioned a lot during the course of our best 6.5 speaker review list was the concept of “RMS.” What that stands for is root means square. It is essentially a fancy and more accurate method for measuring the power output of a speaker. As we mentioned before, the power of a speaker is going to have an extremely large impact on the overall sound quality of the speaker.
Not only is the RMS of a speaker a good indication of its overall sound quality, but it also helps to convey how sensitive the speaker is. As any audiophile can tell you, a more sensitive speaker is good since it is a lot more likely to pick up specific types of audio and it delivers a fuller audio experience overall.
Sensitivity and dbs Levels
You may have noticed that in quite a few of the reviews on our best 6.5 speakers list that we mentioned a “dbs” level that the speakers had. This is another important component for understanding both the overall sensitivity and quality of a set of speakers.
Each speaker has a maximum db (decibel) level that it can reasonably support. Anything above this db level is either not going to register or not going to register properly. As you might be able to guess, you want your speakers to have a fairly high db level as this means that you can play your music louder and that the speakers can transmit a wider array of sounds.
