John Legend is intact with his history!
In anticipation for his forthcoming fifth studio album, Darkness and Light, the veteran R&B singer releases the thought-provoking, socially-infused, testimonial lead track, “I Know Better.”
On the record, Legend lets it be known that he’s not too big for the moment while insisting he’s no one’s puppet.
“They say sing what you know, but I’ve sung what they want,” he delivers. “Some folks do what they’re told, but baby this time I won’t.”
He also justifies his moniker: “Legend is just a name / I know better than to be so proud / I won’t drink in all this fame / I’ll take more love than I’m allowed.”
“I Know better” precedes the previously released “Penthouse Floor,” featuring Chance the Rapper and the lead single, “Love Me Now.”
Darkness and Light will arrive on Dec. 2.
“I think the album is saying that no matter what’s going on in the world, we’ve got love, we’ve got each other, we’ve got the people that we care about we can hold onto,” Legend told USA Today.
