In a time where new R&B groups can’t seem to stick together or make it pass go, Philadelphia, PA newcomers M.T.B (Meant To Be) is on a mission to break this curse. Formed in 2015, the group has been working tirelessly to hone their talents while building up their character as a team. Following the release of their debut single, ‘Do Your Thing,’ Singersroom spoke with Mire, Tae, Dash, and Rizzy about their sound, inspirations, sticking together, handling drama and more. Check out what these youngins had to say!
How was Meant To Be formed? Did you guys know each other or was this group placed together?
M.T.B was put together by our manager NeJcion in September 2015. All of the M.T.B members didn’t know each other in the beginning. In October of 2015, Tee Marie joined NeJcion as co-manager to guide us throughout our careers as artists.
Tell us about yourself as individuals…likes, dislikes, etc.
We are people persons; we like to stay around positive people who partake in positive activities. We love to sing as you know, and we like to write songs. We dislike negative vibes!
How would you explain your musical sound? What groups, artists or persons inspires you all?
Our musical sound is mixed; We like to think outside the box when it comes to our music. We bring different types of tones and a different message through every song. Groups that inspire us are New Edition, AZ Yet, Jodeci, and of course Boyz II Men. Artists that inspire us are Omarion, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Usher, Tyrese, and we inspire ourselves by recognizing and cherishing our gift to sing.
Nowadays, groups rarely stay together for a length of time, how will M.T.B break this curse?
We will break this curse by being loyal and being brothers like we supposed to be because real brothers don’t leave each other in the dirt or break-up over petty reasons. They stay together no matter what happens or what goes on.
How do you guys deal with disagreements?
We talk, argue; whatever we have to do to get the situation resolved.
What’s been rewarding about your time together making music?
Being able to grow with each other. It will be a journey that will be well worth it in the end.
What should fans expect from you guys over the next year?
Our fans should expect fun, energy, excitement, a story of how we live and operate our day. Expect blood, tears, sweat, and hunger. Also expect four different great personalities that are going to change your life.
