After teaser pictures and hints on her website, Solange’s’ A Seat at the Table album arrived on Friday (Sept 30th) to rave reviews. Written, arranged and co-produced by Solange, the album tackles black cultural artistry and identity, as seen in the first visuals for “Don’t Touch My Hair” ft. Sampha and “Cranes in the Sky.”
Both directed by Solange and her husband, director Alan Ferguson, the visuals are each captivating and soulfully -soothing in their own way. “Don’t Touch My Hair” highlights the diversity of afro-textured hair, everything form finger waves, beads, braids, fros, kinks, curls, and locs are represented in the clip, presented in an artful manner.
“Cranes in the Sky” feels vintage in sound and visual; “I tried to drink it away / I tried to put one in the air/ I tried to dance it away / I tried to change it with my hair,” she sings of the condition of trying to escape our pain and true selves.
Between Lemonade and A Seat At The Table, the Knowles sisters can’t be stopped.
