To mark the release of his album This Thing Called Life (out today), August Alsina drops the video for one of the singles “Song Cry.”
Along the same vein as Jay Z’s song of the same name, August lets the rhythm and melody do the mourning for him. “They say a man ain’t supposed to cry / So I’ma let the song cry,” he sings on the chorus.
The Payne Lindsey-directed clip is very abstract, as it features August in reflection-mode in the dessert after being stranded. He finds himself in the rain near a motel where a ballerina dances, lights a casket on fire, and cries blood tears after lying in a bed of roses.
