Ballers often aspire to be rappers, and Shumpert (who’s currently on the injured list) is making that dream a reality with the help of his pregnant fiancé, R&B singer Teyana Taylor.
Teyana and Iman share their romantic love and their love for music in their collaborative effort “Promised,” an artistic video for a song Iman says is about keeping his promises to his loved ones and “all the stuff I ever said I was gonna do," he said.
The clip features Shumpert in the spotlight of a dark studio as he raps about his hopes and dreams. The song then slows down indefinitely as Taylor offers her verse with ethereal adlibs as she bares her pregnant belly in black lace.
Iman said his part was written and recorded a year and a half ago, and all he writes about on the song is manifesting.
“The crazy thing about it is when I was writing it, I was speaking figuratively. Teyana didn’t add her part until right before the playoffs last year,” said the Cleveland Cavaliers player. “With everything that was going on it just started to line up in my mind, I kind of envisioned what was happening and timed it up accordingly,” he explained.
