Lee Daniels’ The Butler and Tyler Perry’s ‘Confessions’ Tops in 2013

With talent like Oprah Winfrey, Brandy Norwood, Mariah Carey, Lance Gross and Forest Whitaker, Lee Daniels' The Butler and Tyler Perry's "Confessions of a Marriage Counselor" were top films in 2013.

Grossing over 50 million each, both films made the top 10 list of "Black Films," according to Essence, in 2013.

Daniels' "The Butler" is no.1 on the tally, earning $116 million. The Jackie Robinson biopic, "42," "The Best Man Holiday" and After Earth follow.

In fifth and seventh place are Tyler Perry's "Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor" and "A Madea Christmas." The films brought in $51 million and $43 million respectively.

"The Call," "Kevin Hart's Let Me Explain" and "12 Years A Slave" also made the list.
