John Legend – Roll Jordan Roll

From the “12 Years a Slave” soundtrack, “Music From and Inspired by 12 Years a Slave,” comes John Legend’s rendition of the gospel Negro spiritual “Roll, Jordan, Roll,” which features most of the cast including actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays the lead role Solomon Northup.

Legend, who oversaw the musical accompaniment to the film, said:

"12 Years a Slave is such a stunningly powerful film. I was so moved when I saw it. I felt every minute of it and was so inspired to contribute to the music of the soundtrack. This album brings together some incredible artists from different places and different genres who have all been touched by the film. When artists are inspired by great art, it makes us want to create. This album is the result of that inspiration."

“Music From and Inspired by 12 Years a Slave” will be digitally released on November 5 and (in stores on Nov. 19) and feature 16 tracks from Legend, Hans Zimmer, Alicia Keys, and Alabama Shakes.

“12 Years a Slave” (currently in select theaters) is a film directed by Steve McQueen based on the real-life experiences of Solomon Northup, a free black man in born in pre-civil war America in New York state, who was tricked and sold into slavery for 12 years.
