Bruno Mars’ mother Bernadette Hernandez passed away unexpectedly Saturday (June 1) of a reported brain aneurysm in Honolulu, Hawaii, reports the Associated Press.
Always a supporter of her children’s musical endeavors, Hernandez was a lover of music herself, a singer and hula dancer originally from the Philippines. All her children are involved in music; her four daughters Presley, Tahiti, Tiara, and Jamie Hernandez formed the group The Lylas (Love Ya Like a Sibling), and Bruno has a brother who plays in Mars' band.
Support and condolences flowed heavily from those in the industry. “Sending my love and condolences to @BrunoMars at this difficult time! I’m sincerely praying for you bro! #1Love,” tweeted Rihanna. Randy Jackson tweeted, "terrible news. Praying for you @brunomars."
There’s a song titled “I love you Mom” on Youtube posted just over a week ago of a recording a four-year-old Bruno singing a song of dedication to his mother. “I love you mom, you are my favorite girl,” a sweet, high-pitched voice sings.
With his Moonshine Jungle World Tour scheduled to kick off on June 22, it’s still unclear whether there will be changes to the schedule due to his mother’s tragic, sudden passing.
Hernandez was 55 years old.
