Jarvis rejuvenated his music career with the independent release of ‘Heartache‘, a mixtape hosted by DJ Scream & Sense. The project gained attention of over 50,000 fans on LiveMixtapes and standout single “Make A Little Room” was added to radio stations playlist in several cities. The success of the mixtape caught the attention of Capitol Records and a recording contract with the major label, which is home to LeToya Luckett, and Corinne Bailey Rae.
Earlier in his career, the R&B singer-songwriter signed two failed record deals with Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def and Ludacris’ DTP Records. While on DTP, he earned national attention for the single “Pretty Girls” featuring Ludacris, but no album was released.
The Tulsa, Oklahoma crooner’s decision to manage his career independently follows similar path of success like The Weeknd, Mac Miller, and Kendrick Lamar.
