Get familiar with the fresh sounds of Kori James. Hailing from Florida by way of Atlanta, James began writing poetry from an early age. He shortly afterward switched to songwriting upon hearing the chemistry of Brandy’s vocals and Rodney Jerkins’ production on her 1998 album ‘Never Say Never.’ That same year, he wrote a tribute song called “For You” for his biggest motivator and inspiration, his late mother. James’ passion for the pen drove him (literally) to Atlanta, when he packed up everything and left his stable job and Florida A&M University coursework to pursue songwriting.
His debut seven-track compilation “Write On, Kori” is inspired by events of this past year. The theme of a broken relationship, James cleverly sings about an ill-fated love via lush harmonies and driving tempos. Ever find out the one you loved isn’t who they say they are? Then “False Prophets” is for you. “Blow You Away” will make you light one up to your sorrows in a clever comparison to chucking up the deuces to an ex-love. “Stuck On You” is for when we can’t seem to let go.
