It seems Beyonce Knowles will go into the history books for more than her art. According to the Associated Press, a newly discovered horse fly in Australia was named after the R&B beauty because the insect has a “bootylicious” golden-haired bum.
Previously published results from Bryan Lessard, a 24-year-old researcher at Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, were recently announced on the species that had been sitting in a fly collection since it was captured in 1981 – the same year pop diva Beyonce was born.
In an effort to recognize the insect’s beauty, Lessard named the fly Scaptia (Plinthina) beyonceae.
According to Lessard, Beyonce would be “in the nature history books forever” and that the fly now bearing her name is “pretty bootylicious” with its golden backside. He the new mom of Blue Ivy Carter, who he loves as a singer, will take his scientific gesture as a compliment.
Beyonce recorded the song “Bootylicious” during her time with multi-platinum selling group Destiny’s Child. Since then the word has been added to the English dictionary.
