A question that loomed over Kelly Rowland’s solo career was will she ever step out of Beyonce’s shadow to harvest her own spotlight? In 2011, she finally answered the question by rising to the top of the industry with two chart topping singles, “Commander” and “Motivation.”
Riding on the coat tail of her smash single “Motivation,” Kelly Rowland released her third studio album ‘Here I Am’ in July 2011. The project debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and No.1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop albums chart, marking her highest debut and charting of her career.
“I said I wanted people to know that this is the record, the sound I’ve been working toward… that here I am,” Rowland previously stated. “â¦It just connected with my heart and the music as well. It stands for everything I’ve gone through and thought about for this record as a woman. It’s very strong.”
In addition to the rebirth of her music career, Rowland has been garnering international attention for her UK X Factor role.
Contrary to her hit singles and album’s success, many naysayers argue that a big part of Rowland’s newfound success has to do with her turning up her sexiness and being more seductive. Whether the case, earning a nomination for the American Music Awards, the International Dance Music Awards and the Soul Train Music Awards, is not a bad year.
