The 2011 VMAs plans to highlight videos that are not only entertaining but have a positive social impact on viewers. MTV has launched a new award category dubbed “Best Video With A Message,” the shows first-ever pro-social category that “celebrates the powerful intersection of music and social activism.”
“During the past year, we’ve seen a remarkable number of artists use their music to explore deeply personal experiences and issues they were passionate about to create powerful videos that resonated with and inspired millions of their fans,” said Stephen Friedman, president, MTV.
In addition to highlighting the artists self-empowerment music videos, MTV Act will offer actions steps to accompany each video nominated in the “Best Video With A Message” category.
The music videos nominated include “F****** Perfect” (P!nk), “Born This Way (Lady Gaga), “Love The Way You Lie” (Eminem), “Firework” (Katy Perry), “Make it Stop (September’s Children)” (Rise Against) and “Mean” (Taylor Swift).
