Universal Music, the home of Rihanna, Keri Hilson, Mariah Carey amongst others, completed a deal with fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger to create rock-‘n’-roll inspired clothing. Hilfiger will personally be involved with the development of the clothes, not the company that bears his name. He will work select Universal Music artist and bands to construct branded merchandise.
With the decline of physical album sales, clothing merchandise is an additional revenue stream for records labels and artists; Universal reported earnings of $6.3 billion last year.
Universal and Hilfiger expect to release the first products to high-end boutiques and department later this year.
