Seventy-three year old blues legend Etta James was admitted to a hospital due to a urinary tract infection and the blood infection sepsis, a severe illness in which the bloodstream is overwhelmed by bacteria. James’ son, Sametto James said “It was a really bad infection…[but] right now she’s doing a lot better.”
Back in January (2011), James was said to be gravely ill and undergoing treatment for leukemia in California after being diagnosed with demetia. She has been under home care with her son Donto James watching her every move.
Etta James has received high recognition for her musical contribution with inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Blues Hall of Fame and Grammy Hall of Fame. The singer has also struggled with weight issues in the past; in 2003 she underwent gastric bypass surgery.
James has two sons, Donto and Sametto. Both started performing with their mother in 2003; Donto on drums and Sametto on bass guitar.
