Beyonce Set to Receive Billboard Millennium Award

To celebrate Beyonce’s influence in music over the last ten years, Billboard will present the singer/actress/producer/philanthropist with the Millennium Award at this month’s Music Awards. Hosted by Ken Jeong, the award will be presented at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards, airing live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, SUNDAY, MAY 22 (8:00–11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

This year’s musical performance includes Cee Lo, Nicki Minaj, Pitbull, The Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum and Taio Cruz.

Beyonce is one of today’s most recognized women in pop/urban culture. She was a founding member and front woman of Destiny’s Child, one of the most celebrated female groups in music history. Following the groups demise, Beyonce went on to have three chart-topping solo albums. She has won numerous accolades and awards, including 16 Grammy Awards and ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Year award.

Her superstar duet with Shakira, “Beautiful Liar,” set the all-time record for the biggest chart jump in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, bulleting upward an unprecedented 91 slots (No. 94 to No. 3) in a single week. Additionally, Billboard Magazine named the “I AM…World Tour,” where she performed to 1.1 million fans on every continent, the No. 1 concert attraction of 2009.

Billboard also named Beyoncé Woman of the Year in October 2009 and Top Female Artist of the Decade in December 2009.

Beyoncé is currently finishing her fourth solo studio album, due for release later this year. The lead single, “Run the World (Girls),” debuted on radio worldwide on April 21, 2011.
