We’ve been waiting, and waited some more, for the release of Drake’s first album, Thank Me Later. We still have another month before the album officially hits stores on June 15, but we were graciously given a glance of his album cover last week, and a listen at his second single, “Find Your Love” To many, Drake is a hip-hop messiah, one whose sick lyrical flow and delivery injected new life into music and quickly helped him rise among the ranks of top artists like Jay-Z, Kanye and Lil Wayne. The ubiquitous question quickly changed from “Is hip-hop dead” to “When is Drake dropping his new album?”
For any artist that can drop classics on his first mixtape (So Far Gone), there’s no telling what his new album has in store for his ever-growing fan base. Although Drake has stated that Thank Me Later will be a “solid hip hop album,” I am interested in hearing more of his R&B side. On his mixtape, we got a sneak peek of his amazingly good singing ability on “Houstatlantavegas,” “Lust for Life” and “A Night Off.” Although his first single, “Over” delivered a hip, head-bopping tune, the second Kanye-produced track gives us a closer look at his smoother R&B side. Whether it’s hip-hop, R&B or anything in between, we’ll take it. But if we can have it our way (hint: smooth and mellow), we’d love to see Drake collaborate with some of these artists in the future.
Trey Songz – Although Trey did get the honor of being featured on “Successful,” you probably haven’t actually heard this version unless you got a copy of Trey’s latest album, Ready. And with that being said, we’d love to hear the two of them do a track together that’s heard around the world. It’s guaranteed to be a club-banger.
R. Kelly – Although R. Kelly might be considered old-school when comparing him to today’s new artists, he’s beyond talented and still relevant to many. If he and Jay-Z can do an entire hit album, he and Drake can do one hit song.
Kanye West – No, he’s not an R&B artist, but we all remember “Coldest Winter.” And since K. West is already producing hits, why not grab him to join Drake in the recording booth? One word: classic.
Sade – Drake previously expressed his desire to join forces with the talented British singer, but Sade told Canada’s National Post, “I’ve never collaborated because I’ve always avoided working outside my safety zone – I can be exactly who I am and can fail or succeed within the moment.” Sade, we’re sure you would be a success. —— By: Crystal Tate
He’s one of the most recognizable hip-hop artists in the world, and Drake has certainly made his mark on the music industry. From dominating the charts to influencing millions around the globe with his lyrics, it’s no surprise that Drake is a household name. But beyond singing about heartbreak and fame, he also speaks candidly about life lessons and encourages us all to embrace our own paths. In this article we will explore ‘The Smoother Side Of Drake’ – discussing how he uses his platform to inspire others while still staying true to himself.
Drake isn’t afraid to speak up or be vulnerable in order to help those who need it most. He often uses his Instagram stories as an opportunity to share words of wisdom with fans – whether it’s offering advice for getting through tough times or simply reminding them that they are loved. His songs are full of motivational messages too; from “Started From The Bottom” which is all about working hard towards success, to “God’s Plan” where he raps about giving back and helping those in need.
Through creating uplifting music videos, performing inspiring live shows and sharing honest posts online, Drake continues to use his influence for good.
