After two weeks of performances and beating out thousands to reach the American Idol stage, Jermaine Sellers was voted off Thursday, March 4. While Sellers enjoyed his stint on the top reality singing competition, that journey is by no means the end for him. Crediting some of Gospel music’s greatest, Sellers looks forward to releasing an album and taking a crack at acting in the future. “Of course, I want to act. I definitely want to do what the Kirk Franklins, the Mary Marys, the BeBe Winans [did]. I would say more so what BeBe and CeCe did, many years ago. They crossed over,” Sellers told EW shortly after the elimination round Thursday. “At the time, it was Video Soul with Donnie Simpson [on BET] where their videos were being played. Songs like âHeaven.â Stuff like that, the contemporary crossover music, to where you can see my songs on MTV. Just something thatâs going to inspire somebody and let them know that I made it this far, you can make it too.” Notably representing for Gospel/inspirational talent, Sellers admits he felt compelled to “stand in the gap” for those, who like him, come from the church, but so often fail to make it through on ‘Idol’. “Whenever I sing, I donât even see the judges. I donât see them until Iâm done with the song. I always imagine God on the cross, and basically everything that he went through. This is just my test right now, this is me going through my trial. So now Iâve gotta get judged afterwards â you know, how they judged Jesus,” said Sellers, who also appeared on BET’s ‘Sunday Best’. “Thatâs how I looked at it. I threw the Christian thing out there a lot, because thereâs a lot of people who donât give God the credit for us even making it that far. If it wasnât for Him, we wouldnât have even made it to the show, period…” Dove Award Voting Now Open ! In related news, voting is now open for the 2010 Dove Awards !
