Usher, Trey Songz and Maxwell battled it out over the last week for the top spot on the R&B charts. While they lost to Jay-Z’s no.1 charting single “Empire State of Mind,” the trio’s success on the chart is noteworthy. Coming in right behind Jay-Z, Usher’s rising hit single “Papers” earns its second highest position on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart this week. Gaining momentum ahead of the singer’s forthcoming album “Raymond Vs. Raymond,” “Papers” came in at no.2 for the second consecutive week. Not trailing far behind Usher, Trey Songz and once chart topping Maxwell, battled it out for no.3 on the chart. While Maxwell’s strongest single of the year, “Pretty Wings,” fell to no.7 this week, his follow up “Bad Habits” gained momentum. In the end however, “Bad Habits” reached no.4, giving Songbook/Atlantic star Trey Songz a spot at no.3 and his strongest single since “Can’t Help But Wait”. Other notable moves on this week’s R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart are Mary J. Blige’s “I Am,” which debuts at no.46, and Pretty Ricky’s “Say A Command” which enters at 98.
