Covering the latest issue of Marie Claire, X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke says life, particularly family life, has not been as grand since winning the reality show and striking the top of the charts with “Hallelujah”. ‘She had Soul II Soul but it didn’t last as long as she wanted it to last. Then I get this big new show, I win it and it’s weird for her to see this,’ Burke says of her mother (Melissa Bell of 1980s band Soul II Soul). According to Burke their relationship has changed since the show because her mother has simply had trouble coming to term with her success. Most troubling for Burke however, is her younger brother’s suicide attempt earlier this year. Burke, blaming herself in part, tells Marie Claire that her new found success has taken a toll on her brother’s aspiration to act. “‘He doesn’t acknowledge the good things about himself. He’s a good actor… He’s a great lad, but he just looks at the things he can’t do and gets depressed,” says Burke.
