Aretha Franklin Earns ‘Torch Of Freedom’ Award

The Queen of Soul was in New York City over the weekend to receive the Torch of Freedom Award. Presented by the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club of New York, Franklin received the award Sunday afternoon. The club says it offers ”service to those who have served their country.” Members of the armed forces say they are spending Sunday afternoon honoring troops, promoting the spirit of giving and awarding those whose achievements reflect lifetimes of dedication. Franklin also headlined a benefit concert for the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club.
