Janet Jackson: Discipline

After the 2004 super bowl wardrobe incident and lackluster sales of her ninth studio album “20 Y.O.,” I’m sure many music lovers didn’t think they’d be hearing from Janet for a while. Well…she’s back and exuberant as ever! Her new album titled “Discipline” shows Janet still got a bag of tricks and she’s not afraid to use them.
The first song/lead single on the disc, “Feedback,” gives a glimpse of tracks to come with an upbeat, high-paced setting, intermingled with enhanced synthesized vocals. She’s a bit erotic and graphic on this track but isn’t that why we love her? I really like this track particularly because I think it competes aggressively with what’s currently on the pop charts.
“Rock With U” is soulful and smooth yet it has enough punch to keep you stirring around the dance floor. Janet melts her 80’s upbringing with the new millennium in a way only a Jackson could achieve.
“Can’t B Good,” is for the die-hard Janet fans that have been with her since her Rhythm Nation days. This track is a mid-tempo, melodic bouquet of floating notes, with the music to compliment them perfectly. I’m not sure if I know what’s going on with her robotic friend found through out the album, but I know with titles like “Greatest X”, that Janet hasn’t stopped exploring new frontiers in her lyrical content and making it work.
The Darkchild produced “Luv” is a winner out the gate with its heavy beat and catchy light vocals. If you didn’t think love was free, then this joint will definitely clarify those beliefs.
Janet continues to push the envelope and take music to its farthest limits. “Curtains,” as the final song of the album, sums up the album very well with one word…explosive. “Discipline” is one of those, grown and sexy albums. So if you’re looking for a sexy tantalizing album, snatch up a copy of “Discipline” and pay your respects to Ms. Jackson.
"So much betta"is the hottest song Janet has done in years!
