R&B singer Ne-Yo is giving back on this Mother’s Day by hosting a Mother’s Day brunch in Atlanta on Sunday (May 11). The “Closer” singer will serenade some 50 single and foster mothers on their special day to raise awareness of the need for reform of the foster care system in the United States.
Ne-Yo, who was raised by a single mother says “A lot of aggravation was inside me. Dad stuck around for a minute and decided it wasn’t for him. But I credit my mom for being so positive, putting the pen in my hand.”
The R&B star/songwriter is expected to perform, and licensed child care workers are expected to provide activities for children between the ages of 1 and 10 in rooms separate from the event.
“They need something special, so with the success I’ve been given, through the blessings I have, how could I not use it for good? This is a way to help people who deserve it – for both the mothers and the children,” he told The Associated Press.
In other news, it looks like Ne-Yo’s third studio album “Year of the Gentlemen” will be pushed back. Originally due for release in June it appears that an August 5th date is now being promoted. “Closer” the first single from the album moved from #54 to #41 on this weeks Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.
