Syleena Johnson Lands Label Deal With Universal, Preps September Release

Syleena Johnson will reintroduce herself to the world of R&B with the launch of her own label, Aneelys Records (Syleena spelled backwards), through Federal/Universal Music Group. Federal, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, signed Aneelys Records to an exclusive world-wide distribution agreement and Johnson's fourth studio album, "Labor Pains," will be the label's first release. With three critically acclaimed albums, one Grammy® Nomination and several dozen collaborations under her belt, Johnson's newest venture will further cement her place on R&B's landscape.
"I am so excited about this venture. For the past 10 years, others have had control of my career. Now, I am in control and the level of Aneelys' success is dependent on me and I look forward to that challenge. Having full control allows me to sign my own acts, call all of the shots and release my album when it is truly ready, I am blessed," said Johnson.
Johnson's newest work is entitled, "Chapter 4: Labor Pains," which is an in-depth look at her most personal struggles in life. Johnson continues, "I'm really excited about this album because it will relate to anyone who has put in hard work, labored to achieve a goal, suffered pain and come through on top. It will contain what my fans have come to expect of me, powerful, truthful and inspiring songs."
I thought "Chapter 4: Labor Pains," was the perfect name for this album because I gave birth to my first child last year which was a difficult delivery for me. It's about struggle to reap the greatest reward."
Aneelys Records' first single will be "Shoo Fly," which is a controversial tale of baby mamma drama produced by the legendary Traxster. "I have put together a wonderful team, my A-Team and I truly believe we are in for a magical ride," said Johnson. In addition to launching Aneelys Entertainment, Inc., completing "Labor Pains" and releasing "Shoo Fly," Johnson is training with fitness expert Will Franklin in preparation for a mini-tour this summer.

People who don't know real music listen up...this woman is hott and all her albums were! I'm so tired of hearing these females that sound the same and have no originality when it comes to music..sounding like they just graduated from the 2nd grade...tired of hearing bout lil brats at war at 16 and ain't paying shyt except a damn phone bill-get real!!! Come on people, the lady is a star, talented, and has been mistreated by Jive records, she went on to do her own thing, I am so proud of her. Shes married, has a baby boy.. Why do we create s*** for nothing. Lets support the sister. How about that. Call all the radio stations tell them play her music. How about being apart of her success.

It never changes, we as people have to call her names, talk about her personal life, like you are in it, How about the girl is very pretty, but most of all very talented, she can sing her ass off. Syleena God gave you this talent, stay positive and recognize haters and pray for them. Remember the devil is a lie. I hope your marriage last for ever. And that this a new beginning for you and your record label. Your song It Is True is classy, right time for the spring and summer, I hope all the radio stations play it because we are tired of violence, non singing people. God Bless you and your family.

uh yeah also, her husband is Kiwane Garris and they both live in Italy TOGETHER pretty much his whole season so they actually probably WILL work out. Uh by the way, don't you think that's pretty mean to say somebody's relationship isn't gonna work? I mean hey I feel ya on people puttin they stuff out there but maybe she wanted her fans to know she was happy and get them the truth before the people take it and put a negative spin on it ya know. I dunno, I am just really excited for her. She has been through a lot with this industry in my opinion and has still held on and remained classy so, Hey Chapter 4: labor pains Sept. 2! and the new single "it is true is fire".

oh wow, uhh actually likunta your info is incorrect. Syleena and Marcus Betts is his name, did NOT divorce because of long distance. Uh they lived together the entire time unil the separated. Turns out I know her personally and Those are the FACTS. Secondly,like lashawna and Harry said uh it truly isn't relevant to her album release and she DOES have her OWN label under universal ditribution which means she will call all the shots. Now I feel you on people puttin they stuff out there, but maybe she is HAPPY and wants her fans to know whats going on before ignorant press people take it and spin it for the negative to be starting up some stuff ya know. I She is Really a sweet person and I just wanted to clear that up because she is my friend. All artists say that they have creative control but then we never see a cd released. Plus it is SLOWTOWN! That label is so f* messed up. They dont support/promote wonderful artists like Brian Mck nor India Arie !

Harry, you beat me too it. This person sounds ignorant and goofy. It's a label deal, not a recording deal. Which means she has creative control over her label and her material.
And her divorce and current marriage/family is none of our business. I wouldn't care if she married a man who lived on the moon. As long as she keeps making that good music.
So I say...good for Syleena Johnson on her new start and best wishes. I really want to hear what she comes up with next cause she always has a story to tell.

SylJ signed a deal (GREAT!) but its with SLOWTown records (BAD) . SJ says her album will be out on her bday this September\fall,2sept8 : http://www.singersroom.com/news/entertainment-story-1450.asp . But look how they do Mya & Ashanti. Their albums have been pushed back for like 2 yrs!

Syl & her 1st husband Marcus Betts(another basketball player, but just college basketball) div bc of long distance. The official div papers say " due to our itinerant lifestyle". Now Kiwane is in Italy most of the time. Doesnt it seem like she is setting herself up again 4 div?
