A grown up and focused Monica appears in the latest issue of Upscale magazine. Discussing life as a mother while moving forward with her music career, Monica tells Upscale “the music industry never changed who I was”. “You look at a rapper on his first album, million dollars worth of jewelry. Then you look at Jay-Z who may never wear none… you grow up,” Monica says of staying true to herself and still communicating with friends and family. “When I was sixteen, I would go from an awards show straight to a cookout in the hood. People didn’t understand…. these are my people. It is what it is.” While the industry itself has not changed the “Still Standing” singer, motherhood has. “Iâm just not who I used to be anymore. My focus is my children and my family as a whole,” Monica tells Upscale. As previously reported on Singersroom, Monica will star in the forthcoming BET reality series “Monica: Still Standing”. Set to premiere October 27, the series follows Monica as she juggles several different facets of her life including music, motherhood, and entrepreneurship.
