"Leave (Get Out)" singer JoJo made headlines when she filed suit against her record label, Da Family Entertainment, Friday. Today, the singer says it is all "about business".
"I have become a victim of
industry politics that honestly have nothing to do with me personally
or professionally. Because of this, I am willing to fight for what I
love and ultimately for the chance to regain control of my livelihood
and my life," JoJo wrote in a Myspace blog Saturday.
"For the past year and a half
I've been diligently cooperating with my record label(s) so I can have
the opportunity to continue with my career and do what I love the most;
create music and sing. I've been a patient team player and have done
everything that was asked and/or expected of me. As you may already
know, my record company has been going through a major transition and
unfortunately all of the artists on the label have been forced to sit
on the sidelines and wait. I exhausted every option and exercised much
patience before reaching my final decision to file a formal complaint
with the court."
According to documents obtained by TMZ, JoJo's suit, filed in New Yorks, asks that the label turn her loose and pay $500,000 in compensation for her troubles.
Even though the lawsuit is filed, JoJo still appreciates what everyone has done for her but at this point says "this is business": "I
cant wait for the day when I can share the music that me and the
album's contributors have created. I am so anxious to get back to what
really matters. I didn't get into this industry for anything else other
than my absolute passion for and love of MUSIC. At 12 years old when my
mom and I signed the contracts, I could never have imagined that there
would be so many other, far less attractive aspects to this business.
However, at the end of the day I hold no animosity towards my record
company(s). I learned from an early age that this is a business and it
is NOT personal," says JoJo.
JoJo hit the scene in 2004 with the well charting singles "Leave (Get Out)" and "Baby It's You". Since then she has released two albums, including 2006s "The High Road" but, has been unable to release her third album "All I Want Is Everything," an effort featuring production from Danja, Toby Gad and Timbaland.

JoJo, not to be confused with the original Mary Jane Girls lead singer and Ki-Ci's brother, is a pretty good vocalist!!! Her song, "Get out", was used as a vocal comparison standard on one of Diddy's Making the Band seasons which was the making of Danity Kane! Once she gets her business in line, the media needs to stop wasting their airtime on Amy Winehouse if they are looking for the next best blue-eyed soul singer! They're styles are "totally different", but JoJo 's vocals and her overall image has a far better future, so lets hope they, mainstream media, can get past Winehouse's beehive antics and give JoJo some blue-eyed soul love!
This little white girl must have read about Roxanne Shante. You better know your rights little Miss Molly. Chile, I could care less if JoJoe fell in a ditch. Shawakatima needs something rousing from the music industry right now. Shawakatima is so bored with this mess. Now give me some sugar if you're freaky. Give it to mama!
