Days after being lambasted for its 2009 awards programming BET says it "regrets" and will edit encore presentations of the show.
"BET Networks deeply regrets the performance by Young money at the BET Awards 09 (featuring Lil Wayne, Drake, Mack Maine, and Gudda Gudda)," a BET representative told AllHipHop.com.
The controversial performance, with immense sexual references and young girls, including Lil Wayne's daughter, appearing on stage, sparked a series of letters, complaints and on-air interviews with radio and television personalities earlier this week. According to BET sources, a number of elements were not to have taken place during the performance:
"Elements of the performance were unplanned and should not have happened."
While the network gains points for its apology today, a record breaking number of viewers watched the BET Awards 09' Sunday.
In its own press release, BET confirmed that its 09' ceremony pulled in a record 10.65 million total viewers.
As early as July 6, the next air date for the show, BET will have edited the performance with Lil Wayne and Drake.

I thought this was the worst BET awards yet. Lil Wayne's performance was embarrassing but the whole entire BET awards were embarrassing as well. The only good part of the awards show was Ne-yo's performance and Keyshia Cole. Thats about it. Everything else was dreadful. I had to turn it multiple times because I was embarrassed for everyone who was on the show. Hopefully next year will be better. It could not get any worse.
THIS is why I do not go the way of the negroe anymore....we embarrass ourselves like it's going out of style. And every since the "durty" south has taken over hiphop (with their cookie cutter swagger and 808 beats), the music is mad ignorant and BOOOORRRRIIIINNG! Forget it man! I'ma listen to rock music!
BET did you not no that the world would be watching not only did we (black people) lose a legend the world lost a legend and if anybody who felt like i did was looking to see anything to honor the KIng of POP...and BET, drake, and lil wayne you let us down... This should of been a time to shine we have a Black President holding his own! HOLD YOURS lil wayne drake and BET...As we move on let us think wiser, stronger and keep OUR children in mind because people they are our future....
i really thought the entire BET Awards was horible. This was the worst i've seen the Host, and what little mention and salute to Michal i would and could have done better. Seems like there should have been a sectiob se t asisde for his works and some of his music, although my personal feling are some should have talked, praised and appreciated him while alive instead of the negative. No you can't take away the negative publicity but look at all the Gerat things we could still have said, even now tomhia last song History i beleive he speaks the Truth ' They Really Don't Care About US With Him Included, just what they can receive from us. Micheal was a terrific person to me and thats what qwe need top have said of him
I agree with Melissa as well, I was a bit taken back when I heard him drop that comment about sharing him. All together, I thought the show was pretty good, for them to incorporate Micheal Jackson's legacy into the show on such short notice, I believe they did a phenomenal job... and with that said the Lil Waybe performance was very inappropriate. Its not a good look, or very empowering to the upcoming generation to be dropping those kinds of lyrics with little 14 y/o girls dancing in the background...
Toya and Tiny were in that audience cheesing, they should not have green that either, both their daughters were up their.
I agree that performance was the worst the whole song was bleeped out so what was the point of performing it?I just couldn't understand were did they think they were?? Everybody no the show is televised. And when I looked behind them and saw the little girls on stage that pissed me off like you wouldn't believe. Toya wake up and put your Ex on notice regarding your young daughter that's not something a real father would expose his young daughter to.
I agree with you 100% Melissa. Where was everyone when Michael needed them? Now that he's gone, everyone remembers he was a great humanitarian, an awesome entertainer, an outstanding father. when he was alive and needed the support and was being labeled a molester and a freak, I don't remember seeing any of those celebrities who was on that stage standing up and fighting for him.
lil wayne yall know yall was worng.... but anyways the awards was borin this year anyway so it really dont matter... jamief i love yhu but yhu cant host no awards show
I liked most of the show. The Drake and Wayne performance was the worst part of it! I'm glad people said something about it! I thought it was disturbing and just plain disgusting!! I was pissed!! I really don't see how the heck anyone would think that was a good idea. There is NO excuse! Thanks BET for setting black people back some more. SAD JUST SAD!!!
Why in the world would Lil Wayne try to pull some stuff like that, WITH HIS DAUGHTER ON STAGE???? Now, when that girl gets pregnant or contracts an STD at an early age, he can't say sh*t.
jamie's comments was ridiculous, he tried to hold things down and he made a good effort at it but you can tell he was nervous
as for lil wayne he was the idiot one
so what your child wanted to be on stage
you are the adult, she missed you getting the award she will get other chances
she's gone up before, this is want happens when babies have babies
we all know lil wayne's songs are vulgar even if they do have good beats on them
Well i know the bet awards is better that any other boring ass awards and you'll were just hating and jamie fox was right about what he said and lil wayne performance was hot so stop hating
I was more upset with Jamie Fox, and his commentary. I understand the world lost a great pop Icon. I understand him being a black man and what he has done for the black community, but Jamie was wrong when he said we shared him with everyone else. The last time I heard Jamie did not have anything to do with Michael's career. I never heard of Michael asking him or anyone else was it ok to go on a tour, or come out with a album, or input on his wardrobe. Please do not take credit for one man's genuis, Be proud but do not take credit. Where was Jamie when Michael was being accused of child molestation? I did not see him in any news footage by Michael's side. I did not see any celebrities hosting any televised shows to say "we believe you Michael". I did not see anybody donating any funds to help with his legal bills. The people they did show by his side was his family. If anyone shared him with anyone it was the mother that brought him into this world, not Jamie Fox!
that shyt sucked anyways..jamie sucks at hosting and everything else was bad..i cant wait for the VMA's
The awards were bad anyway but they looked and sounded like s***. I'm a lil wayne fan and I didn't watch the whole performance. Get off the drugs and get your s*** together wayne.
