Back in April, Soul/Rock/R&B/Jazz/Gospel/Folk collective The Nth Power dropped their colorful video “Only Love.” Now they’re back with a new project called To Be Free – Live due out on Friday, November 11th. Singersroom has the exclusive stream before the album’s release.
To Be Free – Live is inspired by their internal call to heal humanity’s self-imposed divisions. The say:
“To Be Free – LIVE was a leap of faith for us. We wrote and recorded the record within a 3-month period and wanted to get it out quickly because the songs are a true representation of our mission and what we are about. The Nth Power believes that music can heal, connect, and strengthen individuals and community and we feel a sense of urgency to spread that now more than ever.
The making of this record was very different than the band’s past releases. After our 2015 studio release “Abundance,” we wanted our next record of new material to be recorded live to capture the essence of a Nth Power concert. In front of a live audience, we recorded the audio and video of two shows at The Bridge Sound & Stage in Boston, MA and one show at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, NY. This is the first time this music was ever performed which was really thrilling for us. For the Brooklyn show, we brought up veteran studio owner and engineer Paul Diaz (Outkast, Elton John, Whitney Houston) from Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta, GA to record the shows. The record was mixed by Paul Diaz and Nikki Glaspie at Tree Sound Studios as well.”
Songs like “Freedom” tells the story about some of the hardships that people face in our world, suggesting that the only place you can truly be free is within your mind.
After the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, the track titled “Truth” is very fitting; in a system that profits off of ignorance and thrives on complacency, the song is a call to action – a reminder to unify and educate ourselves because preserving and strengthening humanity is our greatest responsibility.”
“More & More” is a song about finding the strength to stay on your path in a world full of influences and distractions that can sometimes lead to darkness, while “Take My Soul” a song about a runaway slave who is eventually captured and killed. He prays to God to take his soul before his captors do.
