If you think you can put Dawn Richard aka D∆WN in a box, then that’s your first mistake. On her latest offering ‘Vines,’ an interlude from her forthcoming album, REDEMPTION, featuring singer/songwriter PJ Morton, D∆WN makes her plea to critics, who look to “stifle” her creativity.
“I don’t mean to talk about my personal business, but Imma have to put it out there / You’ve been putting me in boxes, and I don’t really feel comfortable for you to do me like this / I feel stifled; I feel like a seed that can’t grow / This water is the only antidote,” D∆WN firmly declares on the track’s intro.
“I felt stifled coming out of the ‘Black’ era,” D∆WN told W Magazine on how the song came about. “I felt like I was being put in boxes, and I didn’t feel comfortable being typed.”
“Vines (Interlude)” follows the recently released song, “Renegades.”
‘REDEMPTION,’ the final album in D∆WN’s trilogy album series, which includes the previously issued Goldenheart (2013) and Blackheart (2015), will arrive on November 18 via Local Action/Our Dawn Entertainment.
