The real reason Mariah Carey wants ex-fiance James Packer to pay her $50 million has come to light. According to TMZ, the large monetary sum was tied to the former couple’s prenup if they would have gotten married.
Packer wanted to wed Carey back on March 1st in Bora Bora, but his attorneys reportedly held up the wedding because the prenup was not solidified. The word is, Packer’s lawyers felt the prenup was complicated, sending Mariah’s team a 100-page document outlining the specifics.
One of the conditions in the drafted prenup states… If Packer gave Carey jewelry or anything else, she would have to give it back if they broke up unless he sent her a signed note saying it was a gift. Another declares that Carey would receive $50 million if they broke-up.
Packer was reportedly pissed about not marrying Carey when he wanted, prompting him to ridicule his team via email:
“I don’t know who’s working for who because there are a lot of names I haven’t heard before on this email chain. The people who work for me — message — do as I say or f*** off. I want to get married on March 1st. James.”
Around this time, Carey reportedly had her dress, the flowers were ordered and all the flights for the guests were secured.
Even if the wedding would have taken place, Carey and Packer would not have been legally married because Carey’s ex-husband, Nick Cannon, had not signed their divorce papers as yet.
So, in short, the prenup was never signed, but Carey still wants her check. She claims Packer’s people deliberately sabotaged their relationship.
