Toronto songstress Jayd Ink is back with her highly anticipated new single “DarkSkin,” a record always performed as an a ccapella at her live shows, leaving the crowd captivated as she sings about shadism and growing up in the city of Toronto. Teaming up with producer kAui from TeamTimbo, Ink let’s her guard down on “DarkSkin.”
“Many are ashamed of their dark skin, let’s embrace it,” she captions with the song. “The term ‘you’re pretty for a dark skin girl’ should never be taken as a compliment. This mentality dates back to hundreds of years ago and has our race as blacks divided and weak. As we fail to realize the black woman, the dark-skinned woman, is our melanin at its richest state.
Great message!
2016 has been a monumental year for Jayd Ink, her last single “ Deep Under” was premiered in the hit TV show “Power(” Ep. 6), she was the only female artist (Independent) at the Urban Jam Festival in Japan with Silento, Kcamp, DJ Whoo Kid & Serani.
