Beyonce opened the 2016 BET Awards tonight (June 16) with a rousing performance of “Freedom” featuring Kendrick Lamar, and she’s also a winner. Bey took home the award for “Video of The Year” fror “Formation.”
However, even though she was present at the beginning of the show, she wasn’t there to accept the award. Her mother, Tina Lawson, accepted the award for her.
“On behalf of my daughter who is on a plane who had to get on a plane to do to London for her next show…that’s how important this show was to her.”….I like to thanks her husband Jay Z and her daughter… and BET who has always supported her.”
