Soul-Pop singer Melany Watson will release her album Lilith in Virgo, and today (June 17) she premieres its first single, “Illuminate.”
The mystically spiritual song is about what it means to be a soulmate, and attempting to shine the light on if that person is “the one.”
“Are you my sun? Am I your earth? / Cause it feels like we can’t live without each other,” she ponders on the opening of the first verse.
“I had just gotten out of an on again/off again 6-year relationship and felt very lost,” Watson explains the song’s inspiration. “I wanted answers: is this person my soulmate? Why does it feel real when it ends and begins tragically? This song is me questioning if the person is supposed to be my soul mate, through the lens of the universe.”
Produced Ross Bridgeman, Lilith In Virgo will thematically cover love and self-empowerment through the lens of relationships and self-love.
Melany has previously has performed with Trisha Yearwood on PBS National Television for “Christmas at Belmont,” and was a Top 100 Finalist on NBC’s Season 6 of The Voice. She’s performed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show and Late Night with Seth Meyers. This summer, she was awarded the highly coveted Abe Olman Scholarship, joining highly respected previous winners such as John Legend, Comic Heroes, Bebe Rexha and Lori McKenna. Her song “Point Blank” (sung by Donna Missal) was featured on the Fox TV comedy-drama fantasy series Lucifer. Currently, she’s a staff vocalist for Vamnation and a professional plus-size model with NYC TRUE Model Management.
Lilith in Virgo will arrive on July 15th.
