Over the weekend (May 28), Alicia Keys opened the UEFA Champions League Final in Milan, Spain (one of the most-watched events in soccer) along with opera singer Andrea Bocelli.
Wearing an elaborate military jacket and black leather pants, Keys performed songs “Girl On Fire,” “Empire State Of Mind,” and her newest single “In Common.”
Keys was certainly an interesting choice for entertainment for this particular even, and many soccer fans weren’t to impressed with Keys’ performance. The game started late and some impatient fans blamed her for the delay. Other fans were wondering why she was singing about New York at an event between two Spanish teams, Real Madrid and rivals Atlético Madrid. Twitter user @Emslie1983 called the performance a “poor man’s” version of a Super Bowl halftime show.
Ouch.
