It saddens me to report that singer/actress Vanity, real name Denise Katrina Matthews, has passed away at 57. According to TMZ, the former Vanity 6 member battled kidney failure and an abdominal illness before passing away in a Fremont, CA hospital on Monday (Feb. 15).
Vanity’s health issues stem from her addiction with crack in the early ’90s. In 1994, she OD’d, destroying her kidney. She later got her life back on track and became a born-again Christian.
As a member of ’80s girl group Vanity 6, she released the massive hit, “Nasty Girl,” a song produced by the group’s creator, Prince. She also starred in classic films like “The Last Dragon” and “Action Jackson.”
Vanity will always be one of my biggest crushes. R.I.P beautiful!
