People are still talking about Beyonce’s “Formation” video and her performance of the song at last night’s Super Bowl 50 performance during the halftime show.
As this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl, it also marks the 50th anniversary for the Black Panthers which coincidentally, began in the Bay Area (where the Super Bowl took place).
Beyonce’s background dancers were adorned in outfits much like the Civil Rights group, dressing in black berets, afros, and leather gear, a clear reference to the Black Panthers and a continuation of the “pro-black” theme throughout the “Formation” video.
Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier caught up with Beyonce after her halftime performance to get her comments on the video. “I wanted people to feel proud, have love for themselves,” Bey said of her intentions with the video.
After much speculation from viewers and fans alike on what the meaning behind the “Formation” video, most people were correct and I think she succeeded!
