Grammy-Award winning singer-songwriter Alicia Keys and her Keep A Child Alive Foundation hosted the 12th Annual Black Ball last night (Nov. 5) at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom.
The Black Ball raises money for the Keep A Child Alive Foundation, which provides treatment and care for children, youth, and families living with and affected by HIV in Africa and India. The theme this year was “Afrofuturism,” which focuses on the ingenuity, creativity, and talent of Africa’s entrepreneurs, artists, designers, musicians, and activists.
The stars came out to support the honorable cause, most dressed in black or white. Keys wore a sheer gown with leggings and black jacket complete with a dressy hair net veil accessory. Keys’ husband Kasseem Dean (Swizz Beatz) sported a black tux and bow tie. The two were all smiles on the red carpet.
During the event, Alicia performed with Wale, Lenny Kravitz and Lion Babe.
"The energy in the Hammerstein Ballroom at last night's Black Ball was electrifying," said Alicia Keys. "EVERYONE in the room was there to do their part, to add their support. It’s not right to me that Africa continues to be disproportionally impacted by AIDS, with too many young lives lost. Last night was about helping to correct that situation. To all of our amazing supporters, thank you for joining us, we couldn’t do this every year without you."
Stars in attendance included Lenny Kravitz, Chris Rock (who hosted the event), Padma Lakshmi, Angela Simmons, Gayle King, Tyson Beckford, Lewis Hamilton, and Clive Davis.
