Usher has teamed up with Nas and singer-songwriter Bibi Bourelli to make the world face racial injustice head on (literally) with their new interactive video for “Chains.”
“I've had enough running…we're running from chains…don't act like you're saving us…We still in chains,” Usher sings while Nas digs deeper into injustices with his verse. Bourelli (the pen behind Rihanna’s “B*tch Better Have My Money”) offers her vocals to the hard-hitting track.
The interactive video works like this:
The page explains, “To listen to Usher’s song “Chains”, look in the eyes of unarmed victims.” At that time, it will ask if the bowser can access your computer’s webcam. By using facial recognition, your camera will know if you look away from the faces of unarmed victims, forcing you to look into their eyes and learn their stories. If you look away or turn you head, the song will stop. (The video is only compatible with Google Chrome or Firefox browsers).
The video ends with the blurb, “Facing the facts is the first step towards change. Make sure others #DontLookAway.” It’s a powerful, unique way to bring more awareness!
Usher will perform “Chains” for the first time at the TIDAL X: 1020 concert in Brooklyn next week on October 20. Families of the victims featured in the “Chains” interactive video will beat the show, and all proceeds will benefit organizations that impact the cause.
