“The Janelle Monae and Wondaland present the Eephus Tour powered by Toyota" may have ended in August, but here's a bit of what you missed if you couldn't make it to the shows (or if you just want to relive the experience!).
In these behind the scenes videos, Janelle explains that the whole experience was beyond her expectations; especially interacting with the fans. “We’re thankful that so many of our fans, new and old, lined up around the block, around the next block. That’s a dream come true; we don’t take that for granted. We have to give our all; it felt like an out-of-body experience,” she said in the clip.
Speaking of fans, Wondaland truly appreciate their fans because they’ve been where the fans have been. Jidenna may have a song called “Classic Man,” but they can relate to the common man, as well. “They’re working 9 to 5s some of them like we were at one time in our lives, we hated our jobs, but we had to pay the bills. So when they come to a concert, they wanna party, and we wanna give that to them,” Janelle said. And the fans feel the love, as well; Janelle is a huge role model for many. “It’s good to see a woman that looks like me on that status. I’ve seen her progress, and it’s just a beautiful thing,” one fan said.
In these exclusive videos, you’ll get to see Janelle, Jidenna, Roman GianArthur, St. Beauty, and Deep Cotton backstage and witness the camaraderie and family atmosphere between the band members and crew. “It’s a very democratic process,” Jidenna said. Nate "Rocket" Wonder of Deep Cotton added, “When somebody has an idea, we’re gonna listen to it, run it past each other…We do know how to communicate with each other.”
It’s been a while since a close-knit record label along the lines of Motown and Bad Boy hit the scenes to top the radio and music charts this hard. It seems Wondaland has the drive, chemistry and camaraderie to leave a lasting legacy on the industry!
