Janelle and Wondaland are game-changers…
The dynamic collective is currently on “The Eephus” Tour,” their Toyota-sponsored, free-to-the-public trek to promote The Eephus compilation album. During their New York stop, Janelle hit up “The Today Show” to perform her singles “Yoga” and “Tightrope,” and to introduce her Wondaland crew to America.
Along with Jidenna (who accompanied Janelle on “Yoga”), Janelle introduced other of members of the collective, St. Beauty, Roman GianArthur, and Deep Cotton to the world, saying, “These artists are visionary artists—they write, record, produce, they play instruments, and they complete the solar system that is Wondaland,” Janelle told hosts Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie. “It started as a movement to want to help uplift the community with our music and show a different perspective of young, black artists.”
Janelle Monae and Wondaland are also speaking out in support of the #BlackLivesmatter movement. Their rally cry of a song “Hell You Talmbout” shouts out multiple names of the victims of unjust police brutality such as Sean Bell, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland, and more.
