Are you still jammin’ out to both of Prince’s 2014 albums Plectrumelectrum and Art Official Age? Well, get ready to jam to more music from The Purple One!
Following his most recent release “HARDROCKLOVER,” his band 3rd Eye Girl reveal the legend will drop a new album titled The Hit & Run Album, due out later this year. It’s titled from his latest surprise concert tour throughout the US, which he and his band spontaneously performed in different cities across the country.
Breaking the news on BBC 6 Music, 3rd Eye Girl members Donna Grantis, Ida Nielsen and Hannah Ford Welton said, “Super hardcore Prince fans that know every song he’s ever recorded – we refer to them as ‘The Purple Collective’ or ‘The Purple Army’ – this album is absolutely for them, because it’s super funky.” “It’s weird, there’s a lot of experimental sound. It’s just hit after hit and definitely caters to those fans who just love to hear what Prince has to say, rather than wanting to always hear that classic Purple Rain Prince sound.”
The new album will also feature a previously unreleased version of the song called “1,000 Hugs and Kisses”, an unreleased recording from Prince’s Diamonds and Pearls era, and a new version of “This Could Be Us” from Art Official Age.
A release date is still up in the air, but 3rd Eye Girl members hope it gets out soon. "It's definitely something we're thinking is going to be released right away, it's just not been nailed down yet. I can't wait for everybody to get this album, it's going to be amazing,” they say.
